Welcome to the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers
Challenge #11: S is for Steampunk!
Edna is the Steampunkiest, isn't she?
I decided to alter a composition notebook for our Steampunk Challenge. I bought quite a few of these after Target clearanced out their Back To School items. My daughter tells me I'll have to get rid of them if I don't use them soon. Did I forget to tell you I bought them about four years ago. She says I ought to use them or not buy them! Now she wants me donate them....obviously, she is not a crafter! Shhhh, don't tell her that the Graphic 45 paper and the eyelets are at least that old too!
I attached the Graphic 45 Communique paper to the notebook by spreading a quick dry tacky glue in an extremely thin layer over the entire cover (ModPodge works also). Most glues contain too much water making your papers wrinkle. After I trimmed the little bit paper overhang so it was flush with edges of the notebook, I sanded and distressed the edges with Vintage photo ink.
I used Kraft-Core Notalgic Core'dinations cardstock with the Tim Holtz Texture Fades-(Blueprints and Pocket Watches) and sanded them to bring out the kraft colored core. All of the elements, except the man stamp were sanded on their edges and distressed with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. The Tim Holtz Time Travelers man was stamped on some map DP I had in my stash.
All other images are from the Graphics Fairy. They have tons of free vintage images to use! I fussy cut the cat and the hand. I used pop dots on the cat and fingers of the hand. Glossy Accents were used to accent the bulb and cat eyes. The free font I used for the snarky Steampunk saying is Ornatique.

I am in awe of this creation, Karen! And that has to be the best and snarkiest steampunk sentiment ever. There may have to be some CASEing in my future. :)
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhh what a fab idea for a notebook!!! Ha ha ha LOVE that sentiment...just a great job my snarky sister!!!
ReplyDeleteooo, I didn't realize this was a note book. I think I have a few of these lying around myself. My kids fight me for them. My son used to go through a spiral notebook a week. Your images are great and I liked that you used the cool font. The cat head is my favorite part. Sorry for writing a book, I just can't seem to stop.
ReplyDeleteA fabulous notebook, great colours and papers.......great embossed block and lovely images!!

I love Steampunk but hardly ever seem to get around to being able to make a project in that style. Not too many of my customers are in to that. This notebook is great and you hang on to your crafty stash as long as it takes to use it, you never know when a long ago purchased item is going to be useful. Non-crafters just don't understand do they? lol, my family are just the same.
ReplyDeleteThanks for following my blog, I am now following you too. Have a great day!

OK, you tell your daughter to BACK OFF, MAN, I have plans for this stuff!! lol - I am really going to have to remember the back to school clearance for these notebooks! I never thought of it before because the kids don't use them (that right there is just wrong).
ReplyDeleteI love that sentiment, and the sketchy guy, and the cat that looks like it's having its temp taken...lol! Fabulousness :)
Fabulous altered notebook! Your daughter needn't know about the papers and eyelets!! hahaha Love the embossing and the sentiments on here, fabulous steampunky layout! Thanks for joining our challenge at LOC this week! Remember we are now weekly so there's more chances to join in and win! Mo dt coordinator xxx
ReplyDeleteI love that saying. I totally imagined it said with a proper British accent as well. Fun notebook cover and good for you using old stash! Maybe you could hire your daughter out to crafters who are trying to downsize. She could shame them into it.
ReplyDeleteA brilliant creation...thanks for joining us at LOC!
